Icône Belval, a smart building dedicated to the well-being of its occupants

After two and a half years of construction, Icône, the new office complex in Belval, was inaugurated on January 25. The building was developed by Besix Real Estate Development and designed by architects Foster + Partners, in association with Luxembourg architects BFF...

Enveloped by a glass façade and covered by a large glass roof, the building is bathed in natural light. At the heart of the building, the atrium links the two office wings.

The entire structure has been designed to enhance collaboration and employee well-being, while setting a benchmark for the post-COVID work experience. The building includes traditional offices, co-working spaces as well as flexible areas allowing for a variation in the presence of teleworkers and digital nomads. The bright and open atrium, the various communal spaces such as indoor and outdoor terraces, informal meeting areas and break rooms nourish the human and collective spirit of the concept. The complex also offers an additional 1,500 m² of restaurant and retail space. Icon benefits from integrated state-of-the-art technology and services. The building includes intelligent lifts, Wi-Fi terminals in the atrium and ventilation control using CO sensors. It is also possible to install license plate recognition, lighting and temperature management. On the basement level there is a gym, parking for 237 vehicles - equipped with electric chargers - and a bicycle storage room. The building is BREEAM 'Excellent' certified and inspired by the Well Building Standard®.

The sale of Icon by Besix Red to AG Real Estate was completed in March 2022, on behalf of the parent company AG Insurance, which acquired 100% of the shares in the company that owns the building, B-9 SA. In April 2021, Société Générale Luxembourg signed a 15-year lease on this landmark building. The financial institution is due to take possession of the premises later this year, once the interior fittings have been completed.
